Dear Readers,
I’m Dr. Arpita Priyadarshini. I welcome you all in my personal blog. I’m a doctor in physiology and a sleep disorder specialist. The reason, I’ve started this web portal is to create awareness about sleep disorders. Within the course of my practice, I’ve found many cases, where a person’s ignorance about the disease leads him/her to a severe problem in life. So, this is my humble attempt to make people know, what is sleep disorder, its causes, behavior, problems and treatment?
Let me first tell you something about me in short. I’m a MD in the department of physiology. I had started my practice as doctor in the Year 1993, after passing MBBS from S.C.B Medical College, Cuttack. After completing my PG in physiology, I was associated with academic department of medical studies and now I’m an Associate Professor of SCB Medical College, Cuttack. I was also fortuned to receive Fellowship from American Academy of Sleep Medicine in the year 2009. I believe in ancient Vedic knowledge and YOGA, to be a key of prosperity in life.
Sleep is essential for a person’s health and wellbeing. Millions of people in our country do not get enough sleep and many suffer from lack of sleep. It has been seen in many survey conducted by various organizations, that 60 percent of adults report having over 70 different sleep problems for a few nights a week or more. Most of those with these problems go undiagnosed and untreated. In addition, more than 40 percent of adults experience daytime sleepiness severe enough to interfere with their daily activities at least a few days each month – with 20 percent reporting problem sleepiness a few days a week or more. Furthermore, 69 percent of children experience one or more sleep problems a few nights or more during a week. So, our objective is to lower these statistics, by creating mass awareness for sleep related disorders, prevention and cure.
